The Flooring Process

Generallly floors of this type are made up from solid timber or a laminate product made up from layers of timber, bonded together. The flooring fits together with tongue and groove joint and after the floating floor is in place, the floor is sanded and finished. Strip timber flooring is available in a wide range of species of wood colours, the timber floor range including Oak, Maple, Beech, Cherry, kempas, Murbau, Jatoba, Walnut, Niota, Blackbutt and plenty more. From harder and softer timbers and a variety of profiles and cover widths, there are a number of processes that will be taken to achieve a floor with the performance and appearance that is a professional standard the stages are as follows.

Manufacture - Usually a sawmiller however dried rough sawn boards may be machined into finished floor boards.

Distribution - Flooring is often sold to timber merchants who on sell to the installer.

Specification - Architects, designers and owners usually specify the product to be installed.

Sub-Floor - Builders provide the joints and bearers or slab over which a floor is laid on.

Installation - Specialist floor installers and carpenters install floors over the sub-floor.

Sanding and Finishing - Generally undertaken by professional floor sanders and finishes.
